Guide on receiving GIRO payments

You can receive GIRO payments with your SGD Local Account details.

Note! Aspire has noticed instances where certain banks send GIRO payments without the full 12-digit virtual account number.

This occurs when the sending bank remits funds via GIRO with only up to the first 11 digits of the virtual account number on the backend despite showing the 12-digit account number on the front-end screen/receipt of the transfer.

Aspire is working with our partner bank and the Singapore Automated Clearing House (ACH) to encourage these banks to build a backend capability to send the full 12 digits for GIRO transfers.

Currently, this issue has been observed with senders that use OCBC as the sending bank. Please advise your senders who use OCBC to either use a regular FAST transfer to your Aspire virtual account or if GIRO is the only option - to have the funds sent to a non-Aspire account.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused and are actively working with external banks to encourage them to build the capability in their banking systems, to send funds to 12-digit virtual accounts via GIRO.

How to receive GIRO Payments?

To receive GIRO Payments:

  1. Go to the SGD Account page > See Local details.
  2. Provide these details to the sending party.

How long does it take to receive a GIRO payment?

Typically, GIRO payments take 4-5 business days to process.

If the GIRO payment has not been reflected after 5 business days, what should I do?

If you require our help to ensure the smooth transfer of incoming funds/or if you have not received your GIRO transaction after 5 business days, please feel free to reach out to us with the supporting payment proof/receipt which shows that the GIRO was successfully sent to your 12 digit Virtual Account number.

How can I submit a GIRO Credit Authorisation Form?

When submitting a GIRO Application to receive payment to your Aspire Account, you are sometimes required to fill out a GIRO Credit Authorisation Form.

If this is the case for you, fill out the form and send it to our Support Team here

Please note that certain Government entities (e.g. Vendors@Gov, IRAS) might NOT support paying to third-party virtual accounts such as Aspire, even after the GIRO DCA form is endorsed.

Aspire is constantly working to ensure that more participants accept virtual accounts and discussions usually take place over an extended period of time.

If you are unable to perform a DCA to your Aspire virtual account, please arrange for alternative accounts for the DCA to be credited to, and let us know through our Support Team so we can begin discussions with the relevant parties.

Note! Should you need to receive GIRO transfers from Maritime & Port Authority Singapore, kindly confirm with them if they can send a GIRO transfer to a 12-digit virtual account. After the transfer is made, please reply to our email with the transfer receipt, and we will guide you through the process. Please note that it may take up to 4-5 business days for the GIRO transfer to reflect on your account.
